Sculptures Bring Life to Towns

The sculptures in a town have to be free from the monumuent-like weight which bronze sculptures tend to have. They should also be the place of life, and not a place of commemoration . Urban sculptures are placed in well designed locations and represent a focal points in a town: the meeting points, places for rest, fun and relaxation, etc.

For the design and realization of such projects one needs a sensible investor with a vision and a good sculptor. If there are larger areas of a park, footpath or an already formed urban entity one needs a good architect or a creative lanscape architect.

The aim is always to broaden the horizon where the art is always the key factor.

In October 2012, the town of Pozega got their Tesla, the life size sculpture in bronze, signed by Tatjana Kostanjevic, which was placed on the footpath on the bank of the River Orljava.

Even though Tesla is not associated directly to Pozega and the County of Slavonija, the reason behind the realizatioin of this project was the celebration of 100 years of bringing in electrical power to this town. A lot is known about the scientific work of Nikola Tesla, and the sculpture tells the story about a man who, in order to have contact with nature, sits in the park and feeds pigeons. Bronze pigeons don't exist, but one could get a hint from  his gesture. There is a certain similarity and resemblance to Tesla, but the new atmosphere  created is one of closeness. The sculpture has a sitting posture and invites for communication and friendship. Many of them very readily and spontaneously take him by the hand.
